We always ate dinner from trays balanced on our knees, since we never had a dining area and also the kitchen always seemed a bit dark and cold. It was a bit of a pain and not practical or comfortable, as you can imagine. We would all be glued to the TV and never seemed to talk greatly while we ate.

We had been happy to have a second room downstairs, which, obviously, became our long-awaited dining room. That happened when we relocated house.
